The Procedure for 1 Euro Houses

The Municipality decides to join "Houses for 1 Euro" and, in agreement with the inhabitants, defines which houses to sell for 1 Euro and under what conditions.


Some Municipalities decide to buy these properties (or become owners of them because they have been definitively abandoned) and sell them, other Municipalities, however, leave the management of the operation to the owner of the house.


In any case, the Municipal Administration guarantees the regularity of the entire sales process and the implementation of the commitments set out in the Notice


In the event that the sale of the House for 1 Euro also includes the redevelopment of the property, the buyer must guarantee:


  The implementation of a home renovation project within a deadline set by the Municipality's Notice*

  Bear the notary expenses for registering the deed of sale and for managing the updating of the Land Registry*

What does the Municipality commit to when it sells the house for 1 Euro?


The Commitments of the Municipality that launches the "1 Euro Houses" initiative are:

The owners of the properties give the Municipality their willingness to sell the houses at the symbolic price of €1 euro; or the Municipality decides to sell part of the houses it owns for 1 euro.

The municipal administration guarantees the regularity of the sale, which in the first case always takes place between private citizens.

What are the commitments for someone who buys a house for 1 euro?



Commitments of those who purchase a "House for 1 Euro" are:


Plan a renovation and revaluation project for the house (interior and exterior) within a year.

Pay the notary fees for the registration and transfer of the property.

Obtain the conditions to implement the house redevelopment plan

Start the renovation works

Guarantee policy. Some Municipalities, to guarantee the correct execution of the works by the buyer, also ask to take out a surety policy (usually less than €5000). This suretyship policy may expire upon completion of the works or within three years following the completion of the works.
